CUSTOMS SECTOR TO INSTALL BETTER IT
[01-02-2016] The goal of the General Department of Vietnam Customs is to boost information and technology in all customs state management activities in order to facilitate people and enterprises. MOBILE NUMBER TRANSFER BEGINS IN 2017
[03-10-2017] Mobile phone subscribers will be able to retain their numbers when switching to other mobile service providers since 2017, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC). According to the Authority of Telecommunications under the MIC, the pilot connection between three major network operators Viettel, Mobifone and VNPT will begin in December.
IT COMPONENTS GET PREFERENTIAL TAX TREATMENT
[21-07-2015] A preferential tax rate of 0 per cent will be imposed on imported materials, ancillary parts and components used for manufacturing major IT products from August 13, 2015. This was stated in Circular No 101, issued on June 29, 2015, by the finance ministry (MoF).
STRONGER IT TIES SOUGHT WITH JAPAN
[25-06-2015] Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung sought support from former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama for co-operation in application of information technology (IT). At a meeting in Ha Noi yesterday, Dung said Viet Nam valued IT application in all dimensions of life, considering it a significant way to improve economic competitiveness and ability to govern, adding that the country has devised its own strategy to become a strong IT country.
GOVERNMENT APPROVES PLAN TO ADOPT 4G
[10-05-2015] The Government has approved a telecom development master plan that says preparations to introduce 4G technology will begin this year. However, critics say it should be reconsidered since the existing 3G capacity has yet to be fully utilised and 4G devices could be too expensive in a poor country.

VIETNAM TO LAUNCH 4G SERVICES IN 2016: DEPUTY MINISTER
[31-03-2015] Vietnam will license its mobile network operators to offer services using the fourth generation of mobile telecommunications technology next year, the country’s deputy minister of information and communications said Thursday. The Southeast Asian country has been piloting the 4G technology since 2010 and yielded positive results, so the year 2016 will see its official launch, Le Nam Thang told an international conference in Hanoi.
VIETNAM PLANS DEVELOPMENT OF 4G SERVICES
[03-03-2015] Vietnam is expected to start developing 4G services by the end of 2015, experts believe, adding that the services will ensure competitiveness and enjoy widespread popularity. According to Doan Quang Hoan, director of the Vietnam Authority of Radio Frequency Management, the country has been making efforts to adopt frequency bands for the development of 4G services, foreseeing the trends in new technologies.
