VIETNAM TO SUPPORT 300,000 SMES IN DIGITAL AND AI ADOPTION

At least 300,000 firms will receive support for advanced technology adoption under a 2026-2030 SME digital transformation project recently approved by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The project aims to support 500,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by 2030 at all activities, including at least 300,000 firms that will adopt digital solutions, platforms, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY SECTOR REPORTS STRONG JANUARY GROWTH

The science and technology sector posted strong growth in January, with total revenue estimated at more than VNĐ464.1 trillion (nearly US$6.2 billion), up 23.3 per cent from the same period last year, the Ministry of Science and Technology said on Thursday. The sector’s contribution to the country's gross domestic product was estimated at VNĐ124.1 trillion, an increase of 33.3 per cent year-on-year, according to figures released at the ministry’s regular monthly press conference chaired by Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bùi Hoàng Phương.

COMPUTERS AND ELECTRONICS TOP VIETNAM’S IMPORT REVENUE

According to preliminary data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, imports of this product group are expected to total US$149.4 billion by the end of 2025, up about US$42.3 billion from 2024. This marks the largest import value ever recorded for a single commodity group. By comparison, exports of computers, electronic products and components are estimated at more than US$106 billion in 2025.

Vietnam’s digital economy is expected to reach US$39 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) by 2025, making it the second-fastest-growing market in Southeast Asia, according to the e-Conomy SEA 2025 report jointly released by Google, Temasek, and Bain & Company. The report highlights Vietnam as the regional leader in AI readiness and consumer trust, with 81% of users interacting with AI daily and 96% expressing strong confidence in AI tools.
