VIETNAM’S OUTBOUND INVESTMENTS JUMP IN JANUARY

HCMC – Outbound investments by Vietnamese businesses surged to US$238.3 million in January, nearly tripling from a year earlier, according to the National Statistics Office under the Ministry of Finance.
The January total included 27 newly licensed projects with registered capital of US$230.8 million, 2.8 times higher than a year earlier. Two existing projects increased capital by a combined US$7.5 million.
Combined new and additional capital brought all outbound investments in the month to US$238.3 million, 2.9 times higher than in January 2025.
Construction accounted for the largest share, attracting US$150.9 million, or 63.3% of the total.
Agriculture, forestry and fisheries made up US$30.7 million, equal to 12.9%. Transport and warehousing drew US$27.9 million, or 11.7%. The remainder went to other sectors.
Investments flowed to 18 countries and territories. Kyrgyzstan was the top destination with US$149.9 million, representing 62.9% of the total. Angola followed with US$30 million, or 12.6%. Kazakhstan received US$21 million, Laos US$12.9 million, and India US$6 million.

DANANG AIRPORT PLANS TO SERVE 20 MILLION PASSENGERS ANNUALLY THROUGH 2050
Danang International Airport will handle 20 million passengers annually through 2050 and expand its aircraft parking capacity to about 52 stands, under a master plan approved by the Ministry of Construction. The approval covers development for 2021–2030 with a long-term vision to 2050. The airport will continue operating as a joint civil and military facility within the national airport system.
VIETNAM SET TO LAUNCH INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL CENTER IN HCMC ON FEB 11
HCMC will officially launch the Vietnam International Financial Center (VIFC) tomorrow, February 11, a move aimed at attracting global capital and strengthening the city’s role in regional finance. The HCMC People’s Committee has issued a plan to organize the launch ceremony, which will take place at the VIFC building at 8 Nguyen Hue Boulevard, Saigon Ward.
QUANG NINH STARTS WORK ON SMART BORDER GATE IN MONG CAI
The northern province of Quang Ninh on February 11 launched construction of a pilot smart border gate at the Mong Cai–Dongxing international crossing, with first-phase funding totaling nearly VND947 billion. The pilot will be implemented at Bac Luan I Bridge for passenger traffic and Bac Luan II Bridge for cargo, under a proposal approved by the prime minister.
HCMC DRAWS BILLIONS INTO DATA CENTER PROJECTS
HCMC is drawing several billion-dollar investments in data centers and digital infrastructure, with investors in the UAE and the United States committing up to US$2 billion each. The UAE’s G42 and Vietnamese partners signed a long-term agreement to develop large-scale data centers in Vietnam with total capital of up to US$2 billion. The facilities will be built in HCMC and operated under international standards to provide digital services to government agencies, businesses, and global partners.
CAT LAI PORT TO HANDLE 1.6 MILLION TONS OF CARGO OVER TET
On Lunar New Year’s Eve (Feb. 16), Tan Cang–Cat Lai Port in HCMC processed approximately 11,200 TEUs, equivalent to 155,000 tons of goods, marking a strong start to Lunar New Year operations with a combined throughput of 1.6 million tons of cargo. Following this start, the Marine Economic Corps (Corps 20) under Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP) officially launched its first cargo handling ceremony for the Year of the Horse 2026 on the night of Feb. 16.
CHINESE CARS TOP VIETNAM IMPORTS, SURPASS INDONESIA AND THAILAND
China became the largest exporter of completely built-up (CBU) cars to Vietnam in January, with 6,661 units, surpassing Indonesia and Thailand, according to the Department of Vietnam Customs. Vietnam imported 15,042 CBU vehicles worth US$385 million in January. Import volume rose 2.3% from the previous month, while total value fell 5.2%, customs data show.
