VIETNAM EXPORTS OVER EIGHT MILLION TONS OF RICE IN 2025

HCMC – Vietnam exported more than 8.06 million tons of rice in 2025, earning over US$4.1 billion, down 10.8% in volume and 27.6% in value from 2024, the Department of Vietnam Customs said.
The sharper fall in export value reflected a decline in global rice prices over the past year, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Vietnam’s 5% broken rice was offered at US$360–365 per ton last week. A trader in HCMC said trading was slowing due to weak overseas demand. Demand is expected to remain soft as the Philippines and Indonesia may curb imports, while supply from India is forecast to increase.
In the domestic market, paddy prices in the Mekong Delta were mostly stable last week amid weak demand, according to the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Agriculture and Environment.
In Can Tho City, Jasmine paddy was priced at VND8,400 per kg, unchanged from the previous week. IR 5451 stood at VND6,200, ST25 at VND9,400, and OM 18 at VND6,600.
In Dong Thap Province, IR 50404 and OM 18 both rose by VND100 to VND6,900 per kg. In Vinh Long Province, OM 5451 held at VND6,600, while OM 4900 was quoted at VND7,100.
In An Giang Province, most fresh paddy prices were steady. OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 ranged from VND6,500 to VND6,700 per kg, OM 5451 from VND5,800 to VND6,000, and IR 50404 from VND5,500 to VND5,600.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that as of December 31, farmers in the Mekong Delta had planted 921,000 hectares of the 2025–2026 winter-spring crop, equal to 73.8% of the planned area. Some early-planted fields have begun harvesting.
At the retail level in An Giang Province, rice prices were stable. Ordinary rice sold for VND11,500–12,000 per kg, Jasmine rice for VND16,000–18,000, and Thai fragrant rice for VND20,000–22,000.
In Asia, Indian rice prices were flat, while Thai 5% broken rice fell to US$385 per ton from US$410 a week earlier due to weak demand.
