TRANSPORT SECTOR URGED TO SPEED UP RESTRUCTURING

[11-01-2017] The Ministry of Transport needs to focus on its restructuring, adjusting planning schemes and strategies with detailed implementation roadmaps and ensuring traffic safety in 2017. Deputy Prime Minister Trịnh Đình Dũng made the suggestion at a conference hosted by the ministry in Hà Nội on Tuesday to review the implementation of tasks in 2016 and deploy missions in 2017.

MULTI-HOUSE OWNERS WON’T BE TAXED IN 2017

[21-12-2016] The finance ministry has announced that people who own a house will not have to pay tax for the second house they buy in 2017. Nguyen Van Phung, deputy director of the ministry’s tax policy department, said the issue is still on the table for discussion and while it has been a long-pending proposal, it will not happen this year. The idea of taxing multi-house owners is a matter of concern for many Vietnamese citizens.

E-TAX RETURN TO BUSINESSES

[27-09-2016] 95 per cent of E-tax return will be implemented by the end of 2017. Modern taxation will be applied to facilitate businesses and tax payers.So far, over 550,000 among 552,000 businesses (99.6 per cent) have applied E-tax declaration and return. Over 33.4 million tax declarations among over 552,000 businesses have been submitted (95.7 per cent).

Experts, warning about ‘software park inflation’, say that investors have ‘other purposes’ when eyeing such projects. The Hanoi People’s Committee said it has received a document from Becamex ITC which asked for permission to develop a key software and digital content park, capitalized at VND24 trillion.

FDI ATTRACTION HITS OVER US$16 BLN IN NINE MONTHS

[27-09-2016] Viet Nam attracted US$16.43 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) as of September 20, equivalent to 95.8 percent of the amount reported in the same period last year, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA). Of the total, US$11.17 billion came from 1,820 new projects, and the remaining US$5.26 billion from investment added to 851 existing projects.

TEXTILE-GARMENT EXPORT GROWTH COOLS

[23-09-2016] Vietnam's textile-garment exports still increased in the first first eight months of this year but at a slower pace than in the same period last year. Vietnam shipped abroad US$18.7 billion worth of textile-garment products in the January-August period, up 4.4% year-on-year, according to the Vietnam Cotton and Spinning Association (VCOSA).
