VIETNAM AIR MAY LAUNCH DIRECT SERVICE TO U.S. IN LATE 2019
Vietnam Airlines (VNA) will launch long-awaited direct air service between Vietnam and the United States in late 2019, said VNA general director Duong Tri Thanh. Speaking to the Daily, Thanh said those carriers wanting to operate direct flights to the U.S. would have to meet this country’s aviation standards.

HCM CITY GRAPPLES WITH HIGH-RISE CONSTRUCTION BOOM
A high-rise boom in ever-growing HCM City is posing new management challenges for authorities, a construction official reported on Monday. Speaking at a nine-month review meeting on the southern city’s socio-economic development, the municipal Department of Construction Director Tran Trong Tuan said that approximately eight to 10 per cent of apartment buildings in the city were witnessing major conflicts between either the building’s investor and its management board or the investor and the apartment residents.

Vietnam might, for the first time, allow 100 per cent foreign-invested firms in three logistics service areas, paving the way for an influx of foreign investment capital in the sector.

The Government Inspectorate has found irregularities in the management of BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) and BT (Build-Transfer) projects in HCM City, including the use of inappropriate contractors.
AIRPORT SERVICE FEES TO INCREASE FROM OCTOBER
Airline passengers will have to pay more for tickets starting October 1 when the Ministry of Transport starts applying increased airport service charges to cover investment costs of the airport system and raise service quality. However, the extent of the increase is not expected to be significant and airlines will still offer reduced price tickets.
INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN LOGISTICS SERVICES
In spite of holding numerous advantages for strong development of logistics industry, Vietnam's logistics growth is still very modest. In early 2017, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Decision 200/QD-TTg with a view to increasing the share of logistics services to GDP to 8 - 10 per cent in 2025, four times more than now.

The People’s Committee of Đồng Nai Province has suspended the licensing of construction projects in residential areas around the planned Long Thành International Airport in an effort to prevent speculation and higher land prices.
