VIET NAM HALTS INT’L FLIGHTS TO NOI BAI AIRPORT AMID COVID-19 RESURGENCE
The Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAC) has announced temporary suspension of international flights to Noi Bai International Airport in Ha Noi from June 1 to June 7.
The move was introduced as part of the country’s ongoing efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier on May 27, the Authority announced suspension of international flights to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City until June 6.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, foreign arrivals to Viet Nam have been limited since March last year, thus local airports have only received inbound flights to bring Vietnamese citizens stranded overseas, foreign officials, diplomats, experts, investors and high-skilled workers to the Southeast Asian country.
Viet Nam is experiencing the fourth COVID-19 wave, with 4,163 community infection cases documented in 34 localities since April 27.
At a national online meeting on COVID-19 response on May 29, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh ordered greater efforts to quickly stamp out COVID-19 outbreaks in key hotspots like Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Ha Noi, and Ho Chi Minh City to ensure socio-economic development.
