As of mid-November, the country had 1,411,200 ha of winter-rice harvested, equaling 99.7% from the same period last year, of which provinces in the North harvested 1,110,600 ha, equaling 101.1%; and provinces in the South 300,600 ha, equaling 94.8%. As of this period, provinces in the South sowed winter-spring rice seeds for 218,100 ha, equaling 90.3% from the same period last year, cultivated area was mainly in the Mekong delta.

As of August 15, 2012, the country had 1,431,400 ha of winter-rice crop cultivated, equaling 100.5% from the same period last year, of which provinces in the North completed 1,151,900 ha, equaling 101%; provinces in the South 279,500 ha, equaling 98.4%. Together with this, provinces in the South also harvested 1,174,600 ha of summer-autumn rice, which represented 55.6% of cultivated area and equaled 96.2% compared to the same period last year.

As of July 15, 2012, the country had 961,300 ha of winter-rice crop cultivated, equaling121.9% from the same period last year, of which provinces in the North, due to favorable weather reached 769,200 ha, equaling 135.7%; provinces in the South achieved 192,100 ha, equaling 86.6%, the cultivation was late against the seasonal calendar as the flood subsided slowly.

GDP in the first six months of 2012 at 1994 constant prices was estimated increasing by 4.38% from the same period in 2011, of which it rose 4.00% in 1st Quarter; and by 4.66% in 2nd Quarter. Of the economy’s general growth, the sector of agriculture, forestry and fishery rose 2.81%, contributed 0.48 point percent; the industry and construction by 3.81%, contributed 1.55 points percent; and the service by 5.57%, contributed 2.35 points percent.

According to initial estimation, spring rice productivity in the North reached 6,200 kg/ha, reduced 80 kg/ha; yield reached 7,166,400 tons, equaling 98.2% from the same crop in 2011.
