February’s agricultural production mainly focused on cultivation and care of spring rice and vegetables. As of mid-February, the country cultivated 2,596,300 ha of spring rice, equaling 98% from the same period last year, of which the cultivated area in the North was 648,800 ha, equaling 96%; in the South was 1,947,500 ha, equaling 98.7%.

As of 15/01/2014, the country had 1,927,600 ha of spring rice cultivated, equaling 99.2% against the same period last year. Together with this, as of mid-January, provinces over the country also cultivated 177,600 ha of maize, equaling 100.5% from 2013’s same period; 50,200 ha of sweet potato, equaling 86.7%; 39,700 ha of soya bean, equaling 87.4%; 35,200 ha of peanut, equaling 99.3%; 302,000 ha of vegetables, equaling 104.5%.

1. Gross Domestic Products (GDP) Growth
2013’s GDP achieves an estimated growth of 5.42 percent against 2012, of which GDP in the first quarter increased by 4.76%, by 5.00% in the second quarter, by 5.54% in the third quarter and in by 6.04% in the fourth quarter. Although this year’s growth rate is lower than the set goal of 5.5%, it is higher than 2012‘s increase of 5.25% and there is a sign of recovery.

Main agricultural production in the month focused on  harvest of the winter rice in the North,  cultivation of it in the South, and gathering summer and autumn rice crops over the country. As of mid October, the winter rice harvested area in the North was 847,000 hectares, accounted for 71.4% of the cultivated area and equaled 121.2% compared to that in the same period last year.

Nine months’ GDP achieved an estimated growth of 5.14 percent against the same period last year, of which 1st Q. raised 4.76percent; 2nd Q. by 5.00percent; and 3rd Q. by 5.54percent. Of the general growth rate, agriculture, forestry and fishery rose 2.39 percent, contributed 0.44 point per cent; industry and construction 5.20percent, contributed 1.99 points percent and service 6.25 percent, contributed 2.71 points percent.

Agricultural production in the months focused mainly on cultivating winter rice and reaping summer rice. As of 15/8/2013, the winter rice cultivated area over the country reached 1,467,700 hectares, equaling 102.5% compared to that in the same period last year, of which provinces in the North achieved 1,179,300 hectares, equaling 102.4%; provinces in the South completed 288,400 hectares, equaling 103.2%.
